Chevrolet makes the best selling lineup of performance cars in America, so the introduction of a new Corvette is inevitably met with a lot of fanfare. The 2015 Corvette Z06 was introduced at the 2014 New York Auto Show, and as Chevy’s first supercar convertible model, General Motors has apparently spared no expense in making it the showiest Corvette yet. Executive VP of General Motors, Mark Reuss, explained what went into the development of the new 2015 Corvette Z06. It’s based, of course, on the regular coupe version of the Corvette, but Chevrolet promises that the open air design delivers a totally new Corvette experience from the world’s most capable convertible. The new Corvette has a top speed of almost 200 miles per hour, thanks to a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that produces 625 horsepower. It’s an all new drivetrain designed especially for the Corvette Z06, and comes with a 7-speed manual or a new 8-speed automatic transmission. The 2015 Corvette Z06 is capable of making the 0-60 sprint in less than three and a half seconds. If buyers of the new ‘Vette are worried about stopping the car in time, they can upgrade to optional carbon-ceramic brakes.
