The 2026 Kia Sportage HEV is a refreshed fifth-generation compact SUV with seating for five. It has a hybrid powertrain combining a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor that delivers more horsepower this year. Outside, there’s LED star map lighting with amber daytime running lights. Inside, upgraded technology includes a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are also new S and X-Line trims joining the lineup.
This is an SUV for families who need a versatile, fuel-efficient vehicle that can handle daily commutes or road trips. Available all-wheel drive along with a choice of drive modes make it a vehicle that can handle winter’s worst and light off-roading.
The 2026 Sportage HEV features a redesign that reflects Kia's opposites united design philosophy, with stacked LED headlights, amber star map daytime running lights, and revised front and rear bumpers. There’s also a gloss black radiator grille, roof rails, and over fender trim that adds rugged appeal. This is especially true of the new X-Line with its dark accents and 19-inch wheels.
Privacy glass, heated outside mirrors with LED turn signals, and a panoramic sunroof on higher trims enhance functionality. Wheel options range from 17-inches on LX to 19-inche all-season tires on the SX-Prestige trim. It’s not a dramatic change, but one that shows off an evolved, more modern look.

Cloth seating surfaces are standard with SynTex artificial leather on higher trims. It’s not real leather, but gone are the days when imitation leather looked fake. The SynTex material is attractive and feels good. A 10-way power driver's seat is available along with ventilated front seats for hot summer days. Heated front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control ensure everyone stays happy.
The interior is roomy and comfortable with quality materials. Overall, it looks better than you'd expect for the price, which is a common theme across the Kia lineup. Legroom is good with 41.4 inches up front and 41.3 inches in the back. The interior of the Sportage isn’t fancy, but it is roomy and appealing, making it a great car for family road trips.

The hybrid powertrain includes a 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with a 64-horsepower electric motor and a six-speed automatic transmission. It delivers 232 horsepower, which is a modest increase from last year, along with 271 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is good with an estimated 41 mpg city, 44 mpg highway, and 42 mpg combined for the LX, which is front-wheel-drive only. The rest of the lineup features all-wheel drive with an estimated 35 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 35 mpg combined.
That’s good fuel economy that makes long drives easier on your budget. It’s a responsive system that delivers strong acceleration whether you’re trying to merge with high-speed highway traffic or need a little extra power for passing. Shifts are smooth and well-timed with a minimum of engine noise making its way to the cabin.

The Sportage HEV handles with composure, delivering a well-mannered ride on highways with good stability in the corners thanks to McPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension. A choice of drive modes include Eco and Sport with additional Terrain modes of Snow and Sand/Mud for all-wheel drive trims.
The ride is smooth and quiet with minimal road and wind noise. Handling is responsive but not exactly sporty, and it did beautifully on winding roads. It’s an engaging drive that doesn’t demand much from the driver, instead prioritizing a comfortable and relaxing drive experience.

The cargo room is 34.5 cubic feet behind the second row with the adjustable cargo floor in the higher position. That expands to 39.5 with the floor in the low position. There’s up to 73.7 cubic feet with the rear seats folded, making it a capable vehicle for hauling cargo. Along with the versatility of the dual-level floor, there are 60/40 split-folding rear seats and cargo area hooks for small items.
Additionally, the Sportage has a maximum tow rating of 2,000 pounds when properly equipped. The cargo area offers a flexible space for carrying groceries, luggage, or adventure gear with ease. There’s also an available smart power liftgate to make loading up easier.

Navigation is available on select trims, as is a Harman Kardon premium audio system. Wireless phone charging, multiple USB-C ports, and Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity enhance its tech-savvy appeal.
It’s a comprehensive system that has all the key features and then some. Wireless smartphone connectivity helps eliminate cord clutter, while the larger screen makes the system easy to use, especially when trying to follow more complex navigation.
